Photo Library
Content curation, research, co-production
The brief
Think Local Act Personal wanted a library of stock photos to use in their communications. They asked that it reflected real people living real lives, rather than the staged or reductive imagery that too often represents health and social care.
The approach
We spoke with people who draw on care and support to develop a set of criteria for selecting photos. Each photo was assessed against questions like: is this person represented with dignity? Does this reflect genuine diversity in a culturally sensitive way? Drawing from a range of sources, we curated a selection for people to rate, and from that built a library of approved photos.
The impact
The images we associate with health and social care shape how we think about it. When communications default to clinical settings and passive subjects, it narrows what feels possible. This photo library reflects what actually matters to people, and TLAP's communications now include photos of people living full, self-directed lives, and challenge reductive narratives about care and support.
