Jargon Buster

The brief
Think Local Act Personal wanted to create an online glossary of health and social care terms. They asked for it to not only explain jargon, but actively challenged whether certain terms belong in a more human-centred approach to health and social care.
The approach
I worked with a small team to identify which terms needed to be challenged, not just defined. This ensured the glossary reflected a genuinely human-centred perspective. Alongside the written definitions, we recorded videos with people to bring the debates around language to life. I also developed a social media campaign to launch the Jargon Buster and drive people to it.
The impact
This project gave voice to how passionately people feel about language and their desire to make a difference. The Jargon Buster helps people understand why certain terms are harmful, find better alternatives, and make the case for change in their own organisations. It is now the most popular resource on the Think Local Act Personal website, used by people who work in health and social care.
